Fitting cameras into displays: An exploration of invisibility tech

Imagine if there were an application that could make your phone, car, or even house invisible. It may soon be on the way.

Engineers have come up with ways to fit cameras next to pixels. This is used in Microsoft's Surface 2.0 system. Essentially, the cameras are as tiny as the pixels and adjacent to them. This takes the need for a separate camera to locate objects close to or touching the screen away, freeing up space for more display.

This advent excites me for several reasons. Shrouds and cases of phones and tablets are getting smaller. There will be an emergence of a case-free phone that uses 100% of the hardware as display real estate. Couple this with camera integrated displays, and you've got yourself a device that can hide itself in it's surroundings.

I don't know about you, but I can't wait for a suit that does the same thing! What would you do if you were invisible?

  7. Sounds great. I'm wondering if someday we're gonna be able to create a cloaking device like the one Predator used in the movie

  8. I feel like the military is already all over this, and we'll get it for commercial use when other countries come closer to it.
