Synthetic Vocal Chords: Speak For the Silenced.

Scientists at MIT have been working on a gel that would repair broken vocal chords. They filled molds with polyethylene glycol, then pushed air through the chords, which made voice like sounds.

This tech is important for anyone who has lost their voice due to medical issues. No more electronic voice modulators that scare children when placing an order for lunch.

The casual uses for this tech amuse me. Instead of me doing my mediocre imitation of Sean Connery to woo a woman, I'd just punch in the code for his voice and in a few seconds bring his voice to life. Of course this would assume that I would get an implant that could change the structure of my chords at will, but I dare to dream big.

So the next time you see someone with a throat applied modulator or a person doing a very bad imitation, think of how these are quickly going to be things of the past.
